LINKEDIN PRODUCTION STANDARDS DOCUMENT
CREATING GUIDELINES FOR EXPANSION
As the recording studio consultant, Interdisciplinary Architecture developed a Production Standards Document for LinkedIn, providing the organization with a comprehensive description of the programmatic, spatial, and technical requirements for their audio and video content production facilities across the United States and in other countries. The final 250-page Production Standards Document has vastly increased the likelihood that new and existing recording spaces match LinkedIn’s production standards and that the resulting quality of their content is maintained.
The standards include precise definitions of LinkedIn’s high-level aims; prescriptions for recording spaces supplemented by written descriptions, example images, floor plans, power and data plans, reflected ceiling plans, and section drawings; and assessments of how design elements within the recording spaces impact acoustical performance. When collected in a single record, this critical information becomes easily accessible to individuals, departments, consultants, and vendors, all of whom have since been able to work based on a common understanding of LinkedIn’s standards.
ESTABLISHING DESIGN CONSENSUS
Forming the guidelines required inter-departmental discussion, prioritization, decision-making, self-evaluation, and planning, a process led by Interdisciplinary Architecture. Even before the document’s completion, the process of forming a consensus was useful in helping to outline short- and long-term goals, brand strategy, and company priorities. Agreeing upon production standards outside the pressure of deadlines not only prevents conflicting approaches but streamlines decision-making when time and bandwidth may be limited.
Apart from the initial benefits of compiling the document, its periodic review further enhances its value to LinkedIn by providing a framework for benchmarking, evaluating, and improving upon facility performance over time. As LinkedIn expands its video and audio production facilities globally, local design teams at new locations reference the listed guidelines to gather the programmatic and technical information needed to develop construction drawings and accelerate project delivery.
